Dictionary Project
For more than 16 years, a community partnership focused on promoting and strengthening literacy provides Bartholomew County schoolchildren—and adults who are learning English—with dictionaries for use at school and at home.
The Dictionary Project provides dictionaries to third-grade students at public and private K-12 schools in Bartholomew County as well as home-schooled third grade students. Educators describe third grade as the time when a student transitions from learning to read to reading to learn, thus making the distribution timing critical for young learners.
English/Spanish and English/Japanese dictionaries are distributed to adults who are trying to improve their literacy skills.
Local Dictionary Project partners include the Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus along with the and .
